Foundation makes difference in learners’ lives

The NPO donated shoes to learners at two schools in Orlando.

The Kena Foundation NPO visited Orlando High School (OHS) and the Seventh Day Adventist Primary School (SDAPS) on January 27 as part of its school shoe drive.

The drive started at OHS, where the NPO donated school shoes to the school.

Mpho Mdluli, the project co-ordinator at the foundation, said they help disadvantaged communities, and because it is January, they thought to focus on back-to-school essentials.

Charlotte Makamu, a teacher and school-based support team member at OHS, said this donation would have a huge impact on learners’ confidence.

“We are a non-paying fee school and depend on social grants and organisations or sponsors who come forward and assist us.

“As you see, some children’s school shoes are not in good condition, and some do not have any whatsoever.

“As a government school, we are all about inclusivity, and this will boost their self-esteem and improve their performance.”

The foundation headed to SDAPS in Orlando to donate 33 pairs of school shoes, leaving the learners excited to receive them.

“Our biggest hope is that the learners start the year with confidence and know that we, as the Kena Foundation, believe in every one of them to rise and continue to tap into their greatness,” said Mdluli.
