Episcopal Academy donates tech and gear to Soweto school

Partnering with Edu Africa, they donated laptops, soccer gear, and essential school equipment to Emshukantambo Secondary School while engaging in cultural exchange and volunteer work.

The Episcopal Academy service-learning team, composed of teachers and students, visited South Africa and arrived in the heart of Soweto on May 26 to donate essential goods requested by students at Emshukantambo Secondary School in Pimville.

The trip aimed to help participants learn more about the country and to provide support where possible.

The team began their journey in Cape Town, where they participated in volunteer work, before heading to Soweto.

The learners unpacked the parcel to see what was donated to their school.

There, they donated soccer kits and equipment, speakers for assemblies, microphones, an extension cord, four laptops, and a fifth laptop specifically for the CPF.

“We are here with 13 high school students doing volunteer work. This trip is focused on service and learning about communities and their needs.

“Through the agency Edu Africa, we were connected with this school and have come to donate these items,” said Episcopal Academy teacher Rebecca Brinks.

The students from the Academy interacted with learners from Emshukantambo and shared highlights from their trip over a traditional meal.

The learners share everything they learned on the trip.

“We hope that this donation goes a long way and helps the school avoid stretching its funds to cover these needs,” said Ayinde Tate, another teacher at Episcopal Academy.
