MTN Group Fintech Partners with Unjani Clinics for Mandela Day

The initiative speaks to the heart of who we are at MTN Fintech committed to building inclusive, sustainable societies through partnerships that drive real impact.

In celebration of Nelson Mandela’s legacy of compassion, equity and service, the MTN Group Fintech (MTNGF) launched its Mandela Day initiative under the theme Uplifting Lives Through Care.

As part of this commitment to social impact, the MTNGF has partnered with Unjani Clinics, a national network of community-based, nurse-led primary healthcare facilities, to support improved access to basic healthcare and hygiene, including for young women and the elderly in underserved communities.

This year’s initiative includes the MTNGF donating care packages comprising essential female hygiene products to promote menstrual health, dignity and well-being.

The packages will be distributed across five Unjani Clinics – Rietvallei, Newlands, Pimville, Lenasia Ext 10 and Fleurhof areas – selected for their meaningful impact within their communities.

Nikiwe Tanga, the chief legal officer at the MTNGF, said this initiative speaks to the heart of MTNGF, which is committed to building inclusive, sustainable societies through partnerships that drive real impact.

“Corporate citizenship is not a once-off act of goodwill but an enduring responsibility to respond to the needs of our communities in practical, respectful and empowering ways.

“Supporting young women’s health and the dignity of the elderly aligns closely with our purpose of enabling shared value across Africa.

“The collaboration with Unjani Clinics reflects a shared vision to create a long-term impact through community-rooted solutions,” said Tanga.

Lynda Toussaint, the CEO of Unjani Clinics NPC, welcomed the initiative.

“We are proud to partner with the MTNGF on this Mandela Day initiative. Access to female hygiene products remains a persistent barrier for many young women, affecting their health, education and self-esteem.

“These care packages are more than just products; they are a gesture of dignity and hope. We are grateful for the MTNGF’s commitment to community wellness and transformation,” she said.

She added that through this collaboration, the MTNGF continues to uphold the legacy of Nelson Mandela by promoting equality, access and care for all.
