Naledi teen’s BMW ride and laptop gift highlight Reach For A Dream’s mission
Thato Ramabu’s passion for cars and technology was celebrated when Reach For A Dream and Johannesburg spinners made his dream come true.
For the past 37 years, Reach For A Dream has been dedicated to fulfilling the dreams of children facing life-threatening illnesses. With over six dreams fulfilled a day, Thato Ramabu’s dream came true recently.
The adventurous teenager from Naledi lives with Nephrotic syndrome, but he does not let it dampen his passion for cars, with his favourite being a BMW 325i. He dreamed of owning a laptop to help keep him connected.
For his dream day, Reach For A Dream collaborated with the team at Wheelz n Smoke, a spinning arena in the south of Johannesburg.

Ramabu was kept in the dark about his dream day, and although he was shy at first, he soon lit up and was in high spirits after he and his family enjoyed lunch and made their way to the arena.

Spinners, Team Bokkie, welcomed him to the arena and invited him to the spinning ground. What was an already exciting experience was turned up a notch when the dreamer realised he would be sitting inside a BMW 325i.
Over the moon, he wasted no time getting into the front seat for the ride of his life. His cheers could be heard by his family, who shared his excitement.
When the time came to reveal his laptop, the MC announced over the speakers to the crowd that there is a life-changing moment happening on the spinning ground.

Ramabu opened the boot of the car and found his very own laptop and headphones specially wrapped for him. His eyes lit up as he ripped through the paper while the crowd cheered and clapped.
“We are happy to have made Thato’s dream come true. Dreams give children a chance to just be children and find joy in the things they love without having to think about their illness all the time.
Thank you to the team at Wheelz n Smoke for helping us give Thato unforgettable memories. His excitement is an inspiration to keep dreaming,” shared Boitumelo Kumalo, Reach For A Dream’s Johannesburg team leader.
Ramabu is not one of many words, but the joy and excitement were written on his face throughout the experience.
He thanked Reach For A Dream for making his dream come true and giving him another story to add to his car tales.
