Celebrate Heritage Day with Soweto Greendale House on September 24

Diepkloof residents are encouraged to join Soweto Greendale House this Heritage Day for cultural festivities, indigenous games, and community education on heritage preservation.

The Soweto Greendale House, formerly known as Soweto Hospice, invites residents to join them in a Heritage Day celebration that will be held on September 24 at their premises.

Iris Hlole from Soweto Hospice said the event aims to incorporate heritage and palliative care.

“No matter how ill our patients are, we still believe that they remain part of cultural identity and share a unique heritage that must be respected while we provide care.

“In partnership with Ekujabuleni Kwabantwana Home of Care, we will be educating children and the community on the importance of heritage so that they can acknowledge the great variety of cultural identities that exist in South Africa and also to celebrate these as a fundamental aspect of the cultural identity of us as people,” Hlole said.

She added that on the day, they will be playing indigenous games, featuring entertainment from the Mphatlalatsane Cultural group, and showcasing various stalls displaying cultural and traditional items, among other activities.

“We would like to enjoy the day with the community of Diepkloof. Their presence will be highly appreciated.”
