The Kofukan South Africa Karate team continued its culture of nominating a karateka of the month and awarding them a floating trophy.

This practice has encouraged all the teams’ junior karatekas to focus more on the sport and also master their techniques.

“Our chosen karateka for September is Lethabo Maloka, who has been instrumental in the dojo. It’s encouraging to see him grow daily.

“Maloka started karate at the beginning of the year, and in June, he passed his grading and was promoted to a yellow stripe belt. Like any other child, he has had his ups and downs in the dojo, especially when starting.

“But I am glad to say things have changed for the better. He has improved his techniques and shown determination,” said sensei Thabo Molubi of the Kofukan South Africa Karate.

He added that the future looks bright for this karateka, and the team wishes him well.

“In two weeks, the team will participate in the KSA League 2 and Development Championships, and Maloka will be one of those participating.

It will be his first tournament, and I am confident that he will shine and bring us a medal. The tournament is in Turffontein at the Portuguese Hall on October 18 and 19.

“I become motivated when I see the youngsters taking up the leadership role at an early age. It’s encouraging because the future belongs to them.”
