Artist unveils memoir showing his vulnerability and inner strength

Soweto-born artist Thato Gabashe has released a deeply personal memoir, Naked, chronicling his journey through grief, healing and self-discovery.

What was once hardship and never-ending battles has now turned into something beautiful: a memoir by a local artist who shares his personal journey of hardship and healing.

Naked is a tale of persistence. The powerful memoir by Thato Gabashe is a raw, unfiltered journey into the heart of human resilience. With emotional depth, Gabashe invites readers to strip away the masks and meet themselves, and each other, in truth.

Born and bred in White City, Soweto, Gabashe was raised by his grandmother who he described as his anchor and shaped a part of who he is.

After losing his grandmother, he had a lot of unspoken pain and carried a lot of grief, and that is how Naked was born.

‘’This book became an act of personal healing. It allowed me to confront parts of me that were hurting and that I had buried,’’ said Gabashe.

Being naked means showing up exactly as you are, with all your scars, doubts, hopes and fears, he added.

Whether you are navigating your own storms or searching for the courage to be seen, Naked offers a mirror and a companion. It is a call to embrace vulnerability not as weakness, but as the birthplace of strength.

Published by African Voices Amplified, Naked will be available online and at selected book stores from January 31.
