Eldorado Park preschoolers celebrate Easter with egg hunt and community walk

Children from DBF Preschool and Bani Baris Play School enjoyed a joyful Easter egg hunt, complete with a bunny mascot and adventure-filled walk to the new park.

Smiles, laughter and colourful eggs filled DBF Preschool and Educare as Easter festivities began with a lively walk to the new park, accompanied by a cheerful bunny mascot.

Activities, led by founder Sonia Elie, began with prayer before the little ones set off in excitement, singing along the way as they made their way to the much-anticipated open space.

Elie said the intention was to create a joyful and meaningful moment for the children.

“We are celebrating Easter with an egg hunt and I just felt we needed to make it special for the children. I arranged a bunny mascot to keep the excitement and imagination alive,” she said.

What started as a small, intimate idea quickly grew into something bigger after she felt compelled to share the positivity with the wider community.

“Our community has a lot of negativity, a lot of sadness. Sometimes you hear gunshots at night and it becomes normal, but it should not be. We need to change that for our children and their mindsets,” she said.

The walk to the new park added an element of adventure and exercise, with children beaming as they explored a space many hope will soon officially open.

Elie added that Easter is not only about eggs and bunnies, but about faith and hope, reminding children of the deeper meaning behind the celebration.

The event also created an opportunity for collaboration, with another local preschool joining in despite the short notice.

Principal Annabel Sykes from Bani Baris Play School in Ext 4 said the partnership was intentional and necessary.

“Collaboration is important, especially in our community. It allows our children to have fun outside their normal environment while developing social skills and learning to engage with different children,” she said.

Sykes explained that bringing ECD centres together strengthens a shared vision of holistic child development.

“I believe it is important that we, as principals, connect outside our own spaces. When we come together with one goal, which is to develop children holistically. We create meaningful experiences like this.”
