Eldorado Park Family Crisis Centre secures funding agreement

The Eldorado Park Family Crisis Centre can continue its four-decade legacy of serving vulnerable residents after securing departmental funding.

The Eldorado Park Family Crisis Centre has signed its Service Level Agreement (SLA) with the Gauteng Department of Social Development, paving the way for the organisation to receive funding and continue providing essential services to vulnerable residents.

Centre director Gloria Stewart said the organisation was relieved that the funding process had been finalised after outstanding administrative matters were resolved.

“A week before the MEC visited our centre, we received a call from the regional office requesting us to sign the SLA because some documents were missing from our previous application,” said Stewart.

She explained that the funding would enable the centre to continue supporting victims of crime, women and children affected by abuse, and other vulnerable members of the community.

“Our staff continued reporting for duty and supporting beneficiaries despite the challenges we experienced.

“We are grateful that the process has now been finalised and look forward to continuing our work with the support of the department,” she said.

The organisation has been serving the Eldorado Park community for more than 40 years.

Established in 1984 as the Eldorado Women’s Group, it has grown into a key community resource offering victim empowerment services at the Eldorado Park, Kliptown and Mondeor police stations.

The centre also operates the Khayalethu Care Centre, which provides support to children affected by HIV/AIDS and other social challenges.

Programmes offered by the organisation include counselling services, support groups, life-skills training, nutritious meals, homework assistance, as well as sports, arts and cultural activities for young people.

Stewart said the continued partnership with the Gauteng Department of Social Development would help ensure that much-needed services remain accessible to residents who rely on the organisation’s support.
