R75 000 liquor confiscated in Freedom Park

Members of the Vispol Support Unit of the Eldorado Park SAPS arrested a 37-year-old suspect for unlawful trading in alcohol in Freedom Park on September 15.

According to Eldorado Park SAPS media liaison officer Sergeant Fezeka Khobo, officers were on patrol in Freedom Park at about 12:00 when they received information from an anonymous source about a tavern known as Zanzibar, which was illegally trading in alcohol.

Police went to Telescope Street in Freedom Park, where on arrival, the owner was seen serving clients.
Khobo said officers requested him to provide a valid licence or permit to trade in alcohol, but he was unable to do so.

She added that the man was arrested for trading in liquor without a licence in terms of the Liquor Act.
She said the total value of the liquor seized by police is estimated at R75 000.

The suspect will appear in court soon.

Eldorado Park SAPS station commander Brigadier Mkhacani Maluleke congratulated officers on their quick action and thanked the community for providing valuable information.
