Scenes of excitement, joy, and nervousness filled the school premises, from new learners starting their journey to returning learners keen to reconnect with friends and teachers.

After the assembly at Impumelelo Primary School, teachers and learners were full of excitement as the school day began.

Soweto Urban News journalist spoke to parents to get their thoughts and feelings about seeing their children return to school.

Khanyisile Ngcobo told Urban News that she is thrilled to see her little boy starting Grade One and is hoping for a successful year ahead.

“I am so happy to see my little boy starting Grade One. I wish him the best day, but most importantly, I want him to focus on school and study hard. My hope is to see him in Grade Two next year,” she said.

Nomsa Matlala said she is happy about the day and confident that her daughter will have an amazing academic journey because she is very bright.

“I hope my daughter continues to work hard this year, and I expect a lot from the teachers — to do their job properly, involve us as parents where possible, and ensure that our children are well taken care of while at school,” said Matlala.
