Springs Senior Citizen Club welcomes spring with annual lunch

Local seniors bring flair to the runway with custom-decorated hats and live entertainment.

Springs Senior Citizen Club members hosted their annual Spring Day lunch to welcome the new season on September 4. Attendees enjoyed dance performances, singing, a fun general-knowledge quiz, and delicious food.

Club members and longtime friends Joan Elwell (81) and Sheila Kimble (86) shared their fondness for the annual event.

“I used to come here as a little girl during the Christmas celebrations and now at 86 I get to enjoy the very same place with good friends,” Kimble said.

Elwell said she always looks forward to the music and singing, as well as showing off their decorated hats on the runway for the annual best-hat competition.

“It gives them something to look forward to. Making these hats is like a fun goal that they get to share,” said centre manager Pauline Houghton.
