A gift of love and care
With October being Breast Cancer Month, Springs resident Tutti Meadon decided to make a difference in the lives of cancer patients.
According to Tutti, owner of New Era Scrap, she visited a bookstore in July where she bought a pink Bible as well as a book on how to deal with cancer.
“My inner voice made me turn back to buy these two books, with no reason at all,” says Tutti.
She says soon after this, a friend was telling her about a woman with cancer and she got the idea to make up a pamper parcel to spoil women with cancer.
Although Tutti has no knowledge of cancer, she pulled through to give birth to her project Pink Lipstick – Because we Care.
The aim of this project is to show cancer patients they are not alone and there are still people out there who care about them.
“We have to reach out to other people and show them love and affection, even if it is with a small gift such as my parcel,” adds Tutti.
She also says she loves pink lipstick and even if a woman is diagnosed with cancer and do not always feel up to it, lipstick might give her a pick-me-up.
The parcel contains a pink scarf embroidered with the projects name, a pink candle which simplifies the light in the dark, a pink feather that symbolises an angel keeping watch over the woman, a butterfly which means: intension + will = transformation, pink bubble bath and body lotion, pink heart shaped chocolates and a small pink teddy bear.
On Friday Tutti visited Desire Wiggill, a cancer patient from Daggafontein Extension.
Desire was diagnosed with breast cancer as well as bone cancer more than a year ago and although she was in the most excruciating pain, she was exuberant when she met Tutti.
Much to Tutti’s surprise, Desire says cancer is a mind disease and is not spiritual.
“I expected to meet a very sick woman, but instead she is so cheerful that it brought tears to my eyes.
“People always complain about the slightest discomfort and aches, but here is a woman who is very sick and in constant pain, but yet she is bubbly and always smiling. This most certainly opened my eyes to how grateful we should be with our health and what we have,” says Tutti.
Desire was overwhelmed with the gift and couldn’t stop laughing. She immediately put the pink feather in her hair.
Plans to extend project Pink Lipstick beyond just cancer patients are in the pipe line, but Tutti feels it is too early to reveal more information.
