Another business was robbed on October 3, at 4am, when robbers cut a hole in the zinc walls to gain entrance to the factory.
It is the third time Rail Switch has been broken into in the last few months.
“With the second break-in still fresh in our memories, the factory was targeted for the third time,” said Ian Gordon, CEO of the company.
According to Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora, the security guard on duty heard a noise just before the alarm went off and saw two men running towards the main gate.
He ran to the guard hut and locked himself inside.
Capt Ramphora said the guard waited until 7:30am for another employee to arrive at work, before he left the guard hut.
“We found that the concrete palisade fence had been broken and the robbers then cut the zinc open,” said Fred Hendricks, technical sales representative.
Computers and various welding equipment were stolen, and welders’ power cables were cut off, supposedly for the copper.
Gordon said it is a major inconvenience for his company as it causes a loss in production.
“Combining the three break-ins the company experienced a total loss of over R100 000,” he added.
No arrests have been made.
