A man was arrested on August 2 after an alleged attempted hijacking and robbery in Selection Park led police to a property in the Springs CBD.

According to the owner of Vampire Security, three suspects allegedly attempted to hijack two women outside their home on Gilhooley Road in Selection Park at about 20:15.

“We responded to a report of shots being fired. Our response team was dispatched to the scene where they found the two women visibly shaken by the incident.

“The suspects had allegedly attempted to hijack the women and stole their cellphones and car keys. The women screamed, prompting a family member to come outside.

“The suspects then allegedly fired shots into the air before fleeing in a white Volkswagen Polo sedan,” the owner said.

He explained that they used an app to trace one of the victim’s phones, which showed an address on 4th Street in the CBD.

“When we arrived, we spotted the Volkswagen Polo and called the Springs SAPS and the Blue Hawks Tactical Team because we knew the suspects were armed.

“After entering the premises, the police managed to arrest one of the suspects while the other suspects are still at large. The stolen cellphones were recovered, but not the car keys,” he said.

A case has been opened at the Springs Police Station.
