A man was found dead on the corner of Nigel Road and Bushell Crescent on Friday.

A metro vehicle drove past a man lying on the side of the road in Selection park at 9:30pm.

According to Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora, he called an ambulance and they declared the man dead on arrival.

It is alleged this was a hit and run. The man’s damaged bicycle was found next to the man.

“We are asking the community to come forward with information to find the person responsible for the death of this man,” says Capt Ramphora.

* A man left his house on Sunday at 7am, to go to church and when he returned he found his house had been broken in to.

According to Capt Ramphora he was delayed at the taxi rank and decided to return home in Pollak Park.

“He was still in the taxi when he saw two robbers entering his house. He was screaming at them and they jumped into a blue Fiat Uno and drove away,” says Capt Ramphora.

A TV, hi-fi, computer and play station was taken from the house.

A case of break-in and theft has been opened at the Springs Police Station.

* A man was arrested for stealing a cellphone.

On Friday at 11:50am a man was walking down Plantation Road, New Era from the college.It is alleged he was surroudned by three men.

The one robber took the victim’s cellphone and they ran away.

“A witness chased after them and caught one of the robbers. A police vehicle driving pass stopped and the thieve was arrested,” says Capt Ramphora.

The man will appear in court today on a charge of common robbery.

* On Saturday a man was arrested for theft from a Home Affairs employee.

According to Capt Ramphora the worker was helping the last client at 12:30pm, by explaining what is necessary for application for an identity book.

The man allegedly did not have enough cash on him and the employee left him standing there to talk to her supervisor.

She turned back to check something in her handbag, when she noticed money was missing from her bag.

“She called security who approached the man who was standing with his hands in his pockets. They security guard asked the man to take his hands from his pockets,” says Capt Ramphora.

The security guard phoned the stolen money in the robber’s pocket.

He was arrested and charged with theft.

* The police were doing crime prevention patrols in the CBD over the weekend.

They saw a suspicious man walking down Second Street and stopped to speak to the man.

Capt Ramphora says the found a milk carton containing dagga and a dagga pipe.

He was arrested for possession of drugs.

* The second crime prevention arrest took place in Paul Kruger Highway near Geduld.

At 10pm on Sunday police saw a Toyota Quantum changing lanes dangerously.

The police gave chase and managed to stop the vehicle.

The driver was ordered by the police to step out of the vehicle, but couldn’t.

“He fell out of the vehicle still holding a beer bottle,” says Capt Ramphora.

He was under the influence of alcohol and the police found a lot of empty beer bottles in the vehicle.

Capt Ramphora adds he was arrested for drunken and reckless driving.
