Doors damaged during break-in

Geen & Richards workers were surprised when they went to work on Monday (November 11).

Visitors to the CBD on Monday morning were greeted to the site of the front door of Geen & Richards lying on the pavement on Third Street.

The shop was broken into in the early hours of the morning, with thieves leaving a lot of damage in their wake.

On Monday, at 3am the business’ alarm went off at ADT Security’s control room and they arrived on the scene shortly there after.

According to Springs police spokesman Captain Johannes Ramphora the glass doors wasn’t connected to the alarm system, but the Trellidoor was.

It is alleged, by an eye witness, that a black Audi arrived on the scene just before 3am.

A man got out of the car, broke the glass door and tied something to the glass door.

“The eye witness alleged the driver of the car pulled the glass door and frame from its circuit using the car. Thereafter they also pulled the trellidoor open to gain access to the shop,” says Capt Ramphora.

Geen & Richards’ area manager Sasha Govender says she does not doubt the fact that they have been disturbed by ADT Security.

“The robbers only took three flat screens,” says Ansie du Preez, the shop’s acting manager.

An employee Michael Mbizana, who has been working there for 18 years, is very disappointed with what happened.

“The cops should patrol the area more often. This is not acceptable, we cannot do our jobs today,” says Mbizana.

Govender added the only inconvenience is the fact that there will be no trading on Monday.

Capt Ramphora says the police is asking the community to come forward with information to help prevent crime.
