Cemetery in a shocking state

The Addie has received a number of complaints in regard to the state of the Geduld Cemetery.

Three weeks ago, a complaint was issued to the Addie regarding a tree that had fallen over and broken through the cemetery wall.

The offending tree had also badly damaged some of the graves.

In the weeks following the complaint the offending tree has been removed, but the graves have yet to be fixed.

When asked for comment in regard to the broken graves Lebogang Ramashala, media officer for the metro stated,

“The photos and the report will be sent to the EMM’s insurance and the department will wait for the response from the insurance whether they will repair the graves or not.”

The graves broken by the tree are not the only graves within the cemetery in this state.

The slabs atop some of the graves have been broken, and the headstones lay strewn across the ground.

The cemetery is filled with rubbish and the toilets within the cemetery are also in a horrible state.

Human or animal faecal matter covers the toilet floors as well as rubbish of a wide assortment.

The Addie also discovered a leak within the cemetery grounds three weeks ago, also remains unfixed.

At the time of going to print, no comment from the metro had been received in regard to the overall state of the cemetery.
