Premier side rocks
Springs Old Boys' Premier side played Duduza on January 26 and won the game by 20 runs.
Old Boys’ won the toss and batted first.
“We struggled batting first again as there was a lot of movement on the track,” says captain Warren Woolley.
They found themselves in big trouble as at one stage they were only on 45 runs with six wickets down.
But Warren says luckily they have a long batting line-up when Chris De Freitas and George Viviers got stuck into the Duduza bowlers to build a good partnership.
Chris was top scorer with a fantastic 40 with George scoring an important 39 runs which ended on 172 runs after 48 overs.
After lunch Old Boys’ took the field and the players knew it was vital to get those wickets in order to win the game as defending 172 is not easy.
The Old Boys’ captain says they knew the Duduza team had a couple of provincial players in their side.
Once again Old Boys’ bowlers proved to be the best in the league.
George led from the front, bowling extremely well with figures of 9.4 overs five wickets for only 22 runs.
All the other bowlers also contributed and Jonathan Woolley took two wickets for 19 runs getting the important wicket – the Duduza captain.
“We cut it close but we bowled Duduza out for 152 runs wining the game by 20 runs,” says a proud captain.
Next week the team will play Benoni Northerns away.
