According to Eloise, she had stripped the bike of all its stickers and removed the seat to replace the leather covering when the bike was stolen – without its seat.
Eloise left the bike in the backyard when she left for a weekend away on Friday afternoon only to find it missing when she arrived home at 9am on Sunday morning.
The thieves climbed over her palisade fence to gain access to her property and used her paving curb stones to break the lock of the front gate to remove the bike. They also had to break through a second gate between the front and back gardens.
She says that this was the only thing stolen and she believes that the bike was taken for parts.
While Eloise’s bike may be gone for good, the thieves where caught on camera leaving her premises at around midnight on Friday evening, giving the police both the time of the crime and a starting point in their investigation.
Eloise says that her neighbour two doors down brought her footage showing a 4X4 double cab bakkie with a canopy passing their property. The bakkie was either silver or grey and had a broken left taillight.
“Once they passed the neighbour’s everything goes dark and a minute later you see the headlights as the bakkie starts again and leaves my yard.”
Springs police spokesman, Captain Johannes Ramphora, says according to the information that the police has, the owner of the bike parked it inside the yard with gates locked around 1.30pm on Friday.
He says the owner noticed that the motorbike was nowhere to be found the following day around 9am. A case of theft has been opened and police are investigating. If you have information that may lead to the arrest of the thief, you should contact the Springs Police on 011 365 5700/19/20.
