The Ekurhuleni East Cluster trio task team was behind the arrest of a man for possession of illegal ammunition.
While on routine patrol, police noticed a suspicious looking man on the corner of Teabush and First Avenue, Bakerton on Tuesday.
The police approached the suspect, aged 23 years, at 4pm, and when he couldn’t provide evidence of where or when he purchased the ammunition, he was arrested.
SAPS spokesperson Capt Johannes Ramphora says they found a box filled with 9mm live rounds in the suspect’s possession.
“Upon further investigation it was found the suspect has no legal documentation and is from Lesotho,” says Ramphora.
No firearm was recovered and police confiscated the ammunition.
Brig Joseph Shabangu, Ekurhuleni East Cluster commander, applauded the police for their commitment to combat crime and narrowing the space of the criminals.
The suspect will appear in court soon.
