On March 8, 1970, three years after their first encounter, Willie and Martie married on a Sunday after a church service.

Martie says that the secret to a successful marriage is the willingness to stand together during difficult times.

“We live in a tough world, and you have to stand together to see work through those difficult times.”

The couple add that their children, with the respect and love they gave their parents over the years, also helped them in their marriage.
