Water crisis as Dersley reservoir construction on hold
The municipality, in conjunction with Rand Water, is unable to provide water on a continuous basis.
Residents of Dersley and Eastvale have gone without water for three days and construction on a reservoir in Eastvale has been put on hold.
The water reservoir construction started in March 2020 and is aimed at mitigating the constant water shortages experienced in the area.
According to ward councillor Ramesh Sheodin, construction was halted due to a lack of funds.

“Residents may live without many essential things, but water is a basic human right. The municipality, in conjunction with Rand Water, is unable to provide water continuously. It’s down to poor service delivery.
“We can only hope the upcoming elections can make a difference in the lives of these people,” said Sheodin.
This water shortage is directly connected to the substation in Modder East that was damaged by a fire on September 20.
In addition, Eskom made an announcement on Sunday stating that Rand Water’s Zuikerbosch water treatment works have been severely affected by a power supply interruption from Eskom’s Snowden high-voltage substation.

According to Eskom, the transmission lines at Snowden were affected by a veld fire that occurred on Sunday.
Eskom says they are working on restoring power, but cannot provide an estimated return to service
The announcement further states that the outage has resulted in Rand Water losing 60% of its production capacity at Zuikerbosch.
Water supply to the whole of the City of Ekurhuleni will be affected.
