Local church youth visits SPCA for activities and donating needed supplies
The youth from Nederduitsch Hervormde Kerk Springs-Oos spent time at Springs SPCA learning about the work and donating necessary items.
Youth members from the Nederduitsch Hervormde Kerk Springs-Oos in Strubenvale spent the morning of August 31 volunteering at the Springs SPCA, learning more about animal welfare and helping to care for animals in need.
The group visited the organisation and took part in various activities, including walking dogs, helping in the kennels, and feeding the animals.
The SPCA said the visit gave the young people an opportunity to learn about the daily care required by animals at the facility. After spending time helping at the kennels, the group enjoyed a picnic together.
The organisation added that the youngsters went beyond volunteering their time by supporting it with much-needed donations of animal food and blankets, as well as making a financial contribution towards its work.
The Springs SPCA described the visit as a memorable and meaningful experience.
“What a wonderful morning we had, and thank you for sharing it with us and for showing our animals so much love,” the SPCA said.
Church representative Adele Roets said the youth learned the importance of looking after pets.
Roets said SPCA chairperson Nicky Meiring spoke to them about the valuable work the SPCA does and how the Springs community could get involved. She added that the group enjoyed a picnic outside while everyone had more time to play with the dogs.
“We were truly humbled by the wonderful work that all the people and volunteers of the SPCA do. We left there feeling inspired and motivated to continue our important role of looking after all living creatures,” said Roets.
