Rugby Club members embarrassed about state of entrance

Some members of the club have taken cleaning the area into their own hands.

The area outside the Springs Rugby Club’s entrance is littered with refuse leaving many members of the club feeling embarrassed.
The club has been a sporting landmark in Springs for 90 years and holds fond memories for many rugby fans from all over the East Rand.
They are also well known for their bar and weekly food specials.
Simon and Rynette van Rooy have been members of the club for 25 years and have always been proud of their club – until recently.

“It used to be spotless but I now I just feel embarrassed when people come here. The parking lot in the club itself is very small so most people park outside where all this rubbish is lying all over the place,
“People are treating this place like a dumping site and it’s not right,” said Rynette.

Felled trees and refuse have been dumped outside the club’s entrance.

When Rynette contacted the metro about the problem, she was told that the workers are given all the necessary equipment needed to clean the area.
“But members of the club have told us they have seen them around the club just sitting around doing nothing,” she said.

Some members of the club have taken cleaning the area into their own hands.
“I am prepared to put up a big sign saying ‘no dumping’ if I have to because this has to stop,” said Rynette.
Comment from the City of Ekurhuleni will be published once it has been received.
