First responder course a necessity for everyone

The Eastern Springs Local Football Association recently held a first responder workshop for its members and the residents of Welgedacht.

The Eastern Springs Local Football Association recently held a first responder workshop for its members and the residents of Welgedacht.

The Lebone College of Emergency Care and the SAPS patrollers collaborated with the association.

The aim was to teach people the basics when helping the injured and those in distress. Kedibone Ngcobo, a nurse, and physiotherapist Palesa Conco headed the session.

“This course will teach them to deliver basic first aid using minimal to no medical equipment,” said Ngcobo.

The intense, detailed session was six hours long and gave the participants in-depth knowledge about helping fellow players and their loved ones.

“Once you become a first responder, you can give anyone basic first aid, but that doesn’t mean you are a qualified paramedic. You being there could mean the difference between life and death for someone, so you matter,” emphasised Ngcobo.
