National Association of School Governing Bodies to host Education Imbizo

The National Association of School Governing Bodies says it is taking a new direction by reclaiming its skills to build a high-quality education for African children.

An Education Imbizo will be held on May 13 by the National Association of School Governing Bodies (NASGB) at the Kwa-Thema Skills Schools.

The event, which is themed Reclaiming Our Schools, calls for discussions of every topic affecting how well learning and teaching are delivered in schools.

Matakanye Matakanya, the general secretary of NASGB, said the imbizo aims to encourage stakeholder involvement and offer solutions to the quality of education in schools.

“It also aims to restore excellence to our schools by collaborating with all parties involved in education, such as parents, communities, the Department of Basic Education (DBE), and other organisations.”

Bhekizizwe Siluma of NASGB added that several objectives would focus on strengthening the SG’s skills development, such as the financial field, electrical, plumbing and carpentry skills, and more, relevant to developing the school’s standards.

“They will also facilitate the development of policies that are going to make the school environment conducive to producing the national agenda of high-quality education,” said Siluma.

“This is stipulated in the South African School Act, from its preamble to the total content of the act.”

Siluma added that governors would ensure they are hard at work while the above is achieved in a conducive environment.

The imbizo is open to SGBs, principals, educators, and relevant stakeholders within the education sector.

It will start at 08:00.

All schools attending are requested to provide catering and transportation for their attendees.
