Use water sparingly: high demand during heatwave
The city understands the need to stay hydrated during the heatwave, but the demand is high as a result. Customers need to use water sparingly.
The City of Ekurhuleni (CoE) has noted a strain on its water supply system due to the current high temperatures currently exceeding 30°C.
The city, therefore, urges customers to use water sparingly to reduce demand. The reduction of demand is particularly important since the South African Weather Service (SAWS) has forecast temperatures may persist for the rest of the week.
“Gauteng residents will have to contend with the heat for a while longer. People and animals will need more water.
“The city strongly appeals to residents to keep out of the sun during the hottest part of the day and stay hydrated at all times, while using water responsibly and sparingly,” said CoE spokesperson Zweli Dlamini.
The city’s technicians are continuously monitoring the reservoir levels to ensure sufficient water supply. Water tankers will be provided to areas that may experience a supply interruption, as and when the need arises.
Dlamini encouraged residents to visit the city’s digital platforms for updates related to the water situation.
