New Dassault Mirage III exhibit takes Springs Mining and Military Museum to new heights

The Mirage’s new journey takes off at the Springs Mining and Military Museum.

The Springs Mining and Military Museum welcomed a new exhibit that will take it to new heights.

The Swartkop Museum in Pretoria donated a 1964 Dassault Mirage III for the Springs museum to restore and display.

Curator and founder Tony da Cruz talks about their plans for the aircraft.
“She will be painted in the air superiority fighter colours (two-tone grey) she had on at retirement.”
The craft will painted and hoisted in an upwards position.
“We want to give the illusion of the mirage in flight. We have so many plans to enhance the experience for those who will visit the museum.”

The Pretoria museum also donated a missile head and two dropper fuel tanks.

“We are becoming recognised and respected as a museum in the circles that matter. People who have these artefacts are realising that we will give them the respect they deserve.”

Da Cruz says building the museum has brought people together.
“We all have a shared interest in this museum because it provides a great sentiment. From the top military officers down to the men and women whose parents fought in the war, it has unified us.”

He thanked Arend Odendaal of FG Fitment Galore, “Arend and his team will do the surface preparation and full two-tone respray on site.”

Those wanting to see the work in action can visit the museum during the week.
