Springs Mining and Military Museum holds apartheid-era exhibit
The exhibit will soon be at the museum.
The Springs Mining and Military Museum has partnered with the CoE to again bring a historically moving exhibit to Springs.
“The Zero Hour exhibit is an honourary exhibit remembering the school-going youth handed booby-trapped hand grenades as part of an operation planned by the apartheid police in June 1985,” explains Kwa-Thema customer care centre manager Andries Nkabinde.
The exhibit will be by the tree outside the indoor museum.
“The city has supported all commemorative events around Zero Hour, and partnering with the museum ensures a balanced narrative of the history of Springs because the discovery of mines led to the establishment of Springs. We intend to commission research by historians to properly document our history.”
