EMPD arrests 11 suspects for contravening the Immigration Act
All the suspects were detained at the Springs and Benoni police stations.
The EMPD Eastern Region Task Team and Tracing Unit officers arrested 27 undocumented suspects this past weekend, 11 of whom were from Springs.
The suspects were apprehended between August 1 and 2.
“The EMPD officers were monitoring a volatile, possible protest in the streets of Slovo Park when they came across a group of men who did not have any form of identity. They were arrested for contravening the Immigration Act,” the EMPD said.
In the Benoni area, a joint operation led to the arrest of 16 undocumented people for contravening the Immigration Act.
All the suspects were detained at the Springs and Benoni police stations.
