Rotary E-Club appeal to donate sanitary towels to schoolgirls

The She Leads campaign is calling on the Springs community to help provide sanitary towels and menstrual health education to girls in township schools, aiming to keep them in class and restore their dignity.

An appeal launched at the start of August is calling on the Springs community to help restore dignity to adolescent girls in disadvantaged township schools.

The project, titled She Leads: Unstoppable Me, Unstoppable We, is being led by the Rotaract E-Club of Borderless Action.

The campaign aims to distribute more than 20,000 sanitary towels to schoolgirls over the next year, alongside essential menstrual health and hygiene education.

The E-Club emphasises that the campaign is not just about sanitary products, but about keeping girls in school. Period poverty and menstruation stigma regularly cause learners to miss classes, affecting their education and self-esteem.

The public is asked to donate two packs of sanitary towels each, volunteer as drivers to deliver products to schools, and help provide sponsored storage facilities for donations. Drop-offs can be made at Cheapest Wheelchairs, 12 Lydia Street, Selcourt (entrance on Wit Main Road).

Donors may contact Jones Mnisi on 081 741 1313 or email jonesmnisi10@icloud.com.

The campaign still needs a permanent drop-off point and ongoing transport to schools. Local businesses, organisations and individuals are encouraged to join the cause.

She Leads will run until August 2026, giving the community plenty of time to unite and change the futures of thousands of girls.
