Springs Gold Rotary Club invites residents to help pack Santa Shoebox gifts for children

The Springs Gold Rotary Club has packed 40 shoeboxes for this year’s Santa Shoebox Project and is calling on residents to join in by donating or helping pack before October 1.

The Springs Gold Rotary Club is calling on residents to help pack for this year’s Santa Shoebox Project. The club’s foundation chair, Jones Mnisi, told the Springs Advertiser that the club has already packed 40 boxes.

As it is the first year, they wanted to start small and now hope the community will get involved. The Santa Shoebox Project pledging began on September 1. The boxes contain items suitable for boys and girls aged one to four.

“The club single-handedly brought everything and packed the boxes. A huge thanks to Bargain Books Springs Mall for donating storybooks,” Mnisi said.

“Each box includes basic necessities like toiletries, a colouring book with wax crayons, storybooks, a toy, sweets and sustainable porridge.”

Mnisi added that community members can also donate items and help pack at the Rotary Club on 12 Lydia Street, Selcourt.

He said the club became involved after he volunteered with the project during his gap year.

“I wanted to find ways for the Rotary Club to participate in this successful project. I proposed it to the club, and we worked together to pack the boxes,” Mnisi said.

The packed boxes will be handed to the project organisers on October 1.
