10-year-old Scout donates R20 000 to Springs SPCA
A Cub Scout from Centurion raised R20 000 for the Springs SPCA after a holiday visit inspired him to help animals in need.
A young boy from the 37th Springvale Scouts Group in Centurion donated R20 000 to the Springs SPCA. Ten-year-old Vahin Moodley from Centurion, a member of the Cub Scouts, earned his Leaping Wolf Badge by donating to the animal shelter. Moodley’s grandparents are residents of Bakerton.
Speaking to the Springs Advertiser, his mother, Vash Nair, said the memory of visiting the Springs SPCA with his grandfather in December inspired her son.
“Last December, during the school holidays, he visited the SPCA with my dad. When he returned home, he said he wanted to raise money to help them. I cannot give the details about the visit, but he was adamant about raising the funds,” said Nair.
Vahin said that during the visit to the SPCA, he saw animals that needed help and he wanted to support them. He believes the donation means that all the animals at the SPCA will have a better chance of finding a home and a better life.

His mother said that Vahin is a true lover of animals, with his favourite domestic animal being a dog and his favourite wild animals a rhino and orca.
“To give you an example, we are not allowed to spray ants and spiders in our home, only mosquitoes and roaches. He takes care of the snails and lizards in our garden and puts out birdseed. It’s his wild pets.”
On behalf of the fur friends, Springs SPCA manager Annecia Le Roux expressed gratitude to the young boy.
“Vahin, your compassion, your determination, and your belief that we must help if we are able have not only touched our hearts but will change the lives of countless animals that arrive at our doors in need of shelter, food, medical care, and love,” said Le Roux.
