Payneville Primary launches reading club on International Literacy Day

The school celebrated International Literacy Day by launching a reading club that meets during break time, with a call for support to boost digital literacy.

The reading club at Payneville Primary School was launched on International Literacy Day, commemorated on September 8.

Zanele Langa, a teacher from the school, told Springs Advertiser that the launch was a joyous occasion for the learners.

She said they have registered their reading groups with Nal’ibali to demonstrate the school’s ongoing reading progress.

The reading club will meet on Mondays to Wednesdays during break.

“We thank all the stakeholders who made it possible to celebrate the day – from the Department of Basic Education, Nal’ibali, Cotlands Toy Library, Ekurhuleni libraries, teachers, and parents,” said Langa.

She also pleaded with companies to donate tablets to help introduce digital literacy to the reading groups.
