Strubenvale Primary celebrates learners’ district-level success

As Strubenvale Primary enters the final term of the year, the school celebrates learners who excelled at district level in academics and cultural activities, while introducing new programmes like Marimba, Segarona, and chess to inspire creativity and teamwork.

As Strubenvale Primary enters the final term, the school aims to build on the momentum of learners’ exceptional achievements from the previous term.

Among the highlights were learners representing the school at the district level in various competitions and programmes.

Notable academic accomplishments included 11-year-old Nathan Ngwenya, who represented the school in social science; Bahumi Nkosi (9), who competed in mathematics; and Boikanyo Phogole and Phathodi Mohlala (8), who took part in spelling and reading competitions, respectively.

Ofentse Sebothoma (12) excelled in the English Spelling Bee, while Thesha Madi shone in the Afrikaans Spelling Bee. Alexis Burger represented the school in the EMS competition at district level.

Teachers Marichka van Lelyveld and Christelle Campbell reflected on the learners’ performance in Term 3, saying it filled them with pride.

“When they achieve something, you can see how proud they are of themselves, and that motivates them to achieve even more,” said Campbell.

Van Lelyveld added, “We always work towards a goal, and we collectively strive to embody that through constant encouragement.”

To nurture learners’ creativity, the school has also introduced Marimba and Segarona classes, allowing learners to explore musical instruments and cultural dance.

In addition, a new chess club has been established. Although still gaining momentum, teachers say the learners are enthusiastic and eager to learn. Principal Shelby Nkosi expressed pride in the learners’ continued growth and success.

“Let us continue to embrace teamwork, respect and a positive attitude in all that we do. With passion, commitment and unity, there is no limit to what we can achieve,” said Nkosi.
