Road repairs and traffic light fixes underway across Gauteng
The provincial government says fixing potholes, traffic lights and cleaning up CBD areas form part of its G13 priorities to improve service delivery and infrastructure.
The Gauteng provincial government’s road infrastructure improvement programme is on track.
The provincial government stated that the infrastructure improvement forms part of its commitment to addressing the Gauteng 13 (G13) priorities, which include sustainable infrastructure and service delivery.
According to the provincial government, fixing non-functional traffic lights and potholes forms part of the Gauteng 13 priorities, as outlined by Premier Panyaza Lesufi during the State of the Province Address in February.
“The provincial government has been leveraging the G20 Leaders’ Summit on November 22 to accelerate service delivery, focusing on infrastructure development.
“This includes upgrading and maintaining infrastructure such as traffic lights, repairing potholes, installing streetlights, cutting grass, and cleaning CBDs,” said the provincial government in a statement.
The province has deployed people to assist with litter picking, grass cutting, and routine road maintenance activities.

Work is in progress to repair non-functional traffic signals and reinstate and rehabilitate guardrails and road markings.
“We focus on maintaining and improving infrastructure such as traffic lights, roads, guardrails, sinkholes, streetlights, stormwater systems, and general beautification.”
The province stated that it understands the inconvenience caused by traffic congestion due to temporary roadworks across the province.
The provincial government said it remains deeply concerned about the escalating theft and vandalism of road infrastructure, which undermines public safety and economic development.
It has also appealed to residents to protect the infrastructure and refrain from littering. The provincial government said it was engaging with the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to ensure that individuals arrested for theft and vandalism of road infrastructure are denied bail and that cases are not withdrawn without valid reasons.
