Springs Rugby Club gears up for preseason training ahead of new season

Head coach Bruce Borman says the upcoming preseason will focus on fitness, teamwork, and player development as Springs Rugby Club gears up for the new season.

The Springs Rugby Club’s U19 and first team will be getting down and dirty with their preseason training, which will start on November 11 and continue until December 4.

Head coach Bruce Borman told the Springs Advertiser that the training is to prepare the players physically, tactically and mentally for the demands of the upcoming season.

He said that it is exceptionally important for players, and even more so for younger players, as it lays the crucial groundwork for their physical development, technical skills and mental preparedness.

He shared that the players can expect a structured and progressive blend of physical conditioning, skills refinement and tactical and team-building activities.

“Combining younger players and senior players in the same preseason is a deliberate and strategic decision with significant benefits for the club’s long-term development, team culture and competitive readiness,” he said.

“The preseason will be intense, blending the raw potential with the invaluable experience of our senior squad, all in pursuit of peak performance and team cohesion,” said the coach.

Borman also said that at the end of the training, he wants the players to achieve optimal physical fitness, tactical cohesion, team chemistry and unity, player evaluation, mental sharpness and motivation.

There will be players joining the first team in the new season, and the coach advised them to be coachable, work hard, and embrace the learner’s mindset.

He said, “Absorb as much information as possible from the coaches and, importantly, listen more than you talk.”

Reflecting on the previous season, he said that the positive thing is that the team formed a very strong bond, which is an excellent mindset to carry into the new season, as it encourages the players and team to perform better and play at a higher quality and standard.

Borman shared a message to the fans ahead of the new season about what they can expect from the players. He said that they are anticipating the start of the new rugby season and are fuelled by the support of the community in Springs.

“Our goals for this season are clear. We aim to compete at our highest level, implement an exciting and effective style of play, and achieve success on the field. More importantly, we strive to be a team that our town can be truly proud of, both on and off the pitch.

“Your unwavering support is our 16th player. We encourage you all to come out to our matches, create a vibrant atmosphere, and join us on this journey.

“We are counting on you to be the driving force behind our efforts. We hope to see you all at the first game. Let’s make this season one to remember together.”
