Community invited to grief support event in Springs

Residents are invited to a grief support event on March 28 at Uthombo Guest Lodge, aimed at helping individuals understand loss through storytelling and community support.

The community is invited to 2026 Without You – Grief and Loss, on March 28, at Uthombo Guest Lodge.

This event aims to help one understand the stages of grief as they navigate their healing process.

The event is hosted by the same organisers who hold the annual Christmas Without You event, which is catered to those who find it hard to spend the festive season without their loved ones.

“Considering how people are going through loss in our communities, be it loss of assets, divorce, loss of status, actually, any loss you can think of. With the unemployment rate, it’s not easy to access professional help.

“As Zakhel’ ukukhanya Grief Consultas, we felt a need to close the gap by this event,” said one of the organisers, Nomalungelo Rathlahane.

She is also a lecturer at Springs TVET College and the author of a book titled Emotional Intelligence at School. Rathlahane added that the event will also help an individual’s self-awareness.

“We will also touch on understanding the power that lies in storytelling. Nobody said it better than Maya Angelou when she said, ‘There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside of you.”

“Most of all, they should expect the move of God’s hand. He really wants to heal us collaboratively,” Rathlahane said.
