Springs detective’s investigation leads to 10-year robbery sentence
A thorough investigation by a Springs detective secured the conviction of a 24-year-old man who robbed a motorist at gunpoint.
Springs SAPS Detective Sergeant Raymond Mogashoa has been applauded for his investigative work, which led to the conviction of a man accused of robbing a victim of R61 000.
The Springs Regional Court sentenced Thabiso Sniper Makeke (24) to 10 years direct imprisonment.
According to Springs SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Charity Zwane, Makeke was arrested in connection with an incident that happened in September 2025.
“A 41-year-old man had parked his vehicle in front of a shop in Dal Fouche. As he was getting out of the vehicle, two men approached him at gunpoint and ordered him back into his vehicle.

“The suspects took the victim’s cellphones and forced him to provide his cellphone password.
“They accessed his banking app and transferred an amount of R61 000 into another bank account,” Zwane explained.
She added that a thorough investigation by Mogashoa led to Makeke’s arrest.
“He was arrested and charged in connection with the incident. Makeke appeared before court and was subsequently sentenced to 10 years direct imprisonment,” she said.
