Dog’s blog: Just can’t win

Mom started acting all dodgy again. She hauled the bedding off Luan’s bed and washed everything. Sheesh! I’m not that dirty you know.

Admittedly, I do like to sleep in his bed sometimes. Snuggle up under his duvet on odd occasions when I’ve been deserted and have the whole house to myself.

Thought… Oh good – my boy is coming to visit.

But Mom carried the cleaning jag a bit far. She turned the house upside down and cleaned everything – upstairs and downstairs. I thought perhaps some nice flower footprints on the tiles might liven things up – but instead I got yelled at.

No really. I did. Mom yelled at her precious little doglet.

“Fudges! Noooooo…”

It’s not my fault that the blue dudes decided to water the garden when she’d just blitzed the floor now, is it? A girls gotta piddle.

Mom waved the pipe of the slurpy thing at me. “Yoh Fudge! There’s enough hair in here to make several dogs – and I’ve already emptied it out twice!”

“It’s not my fault I shed. Suck it up and deal princess!” Literally. Like most things – when I do something – I do a darn good job.

Actually we found out the other day that there is nothing you can do to prevent dogs shedding. As long as they are not shedding because they are sick. Then obviously you should take them off to your dressing gown dude chop chop and get them sorted out.

Here’s a funny fact – did you know that shedding is largely influenced by daylight. The shedding process is triggered by the number of hours your doglet spends in the sun. It’s even got a fancy name – a photoperiod. But those dogs that stay inside also shed – because of artificial light.

Plus, of course, towards the end of winter we need to get rid of all our excess hair.

So what can you do about it? Brush or comb your doglet daily. And – here’s a good one – feed your dog good quality food – this will keep the fur healthy and soft and reduce shedding. Plus lots of regular exercise of course. That also helps.

Lastly, don’t let your pooch get fat. When we pack on the pounds it’s not so easy to groom ourselves…

Ooef! Can’t reach… you know how it is.

By the way – it was Alpha’s parental agents who came to visit.
