A safer option

The staff at Hope Ithemba Crisis Pregnancy Centre installed a baby safe at the centre last year, in order to save babies’ lives.

With so many babies having been found dumped in and around Springs, many of the babies having died due to exposure, they saw the need to install the baby safe.

This is a safe place to put unwanted babies.

But since its installation almost a year ago, no one has ever made use of it.

Instead, women still opt to dump their unwanted babies at the Far East Rand Hospital (where it can take hours before a baby is found), in a veld or in a dustbin.

The centre and the hospital appeal to pregnant women who do not want their babies, to go to the centre where they can and will be helped, and where they can give the baby a chance at a life.
