Our lawless society

Why do people not stop at red robots?

On Saturday, August 24, I was driving to the Casseldale area at 11:54am.

I had stopped at the Victoria/Ermelo intersection. When the robot was green I drove, I was hit from the side by a car that had skipped a red robot. The driver of the Red Nissan Sentra hit me so hard I was unable to open my car door.

My heart breaks when I think that the driver and the other occupants of the car didn’t even get out to see if I was alive or even okay. He moved his car onto the pavement and checked their damage – totally unperturbed about me. What kind of people are these?

Since when do you move your car from an accident scene?

The driver of the car had smooth tyres, and was speeding across a red robot, he was overloaded with people; he would not have been able to brake anyway with those tyres.

I was under the impression that the occupants were under the influence, but I am unable to prove this as the metro officer told me he is unable to breathalyse us due to no kits being available on the East Rand – did you read correctly?

Yes you can drink and drive, with smooth tyres and you may skip the red robot. There will be no fine or any consequences. The metro cop took my statement on an A4 piece of paper that had been folded in half – don’t we have books for this?

Thank you to the CPSF for surrounding me, and keeping me calm and safe.

Thank you to the angel that was standing next to my car when I eventually managed to get out – Johan, you will be blessed richly for your kindness. Johan called the CPSF, the metro police who took forever to arrive and without kits. Not to mention the slow response of the ambulance. Thank you Madeleine for coming from the other side of the road to check if I needed assistance.

It has become a norm for people not to stop at red robots. Why? They are there for a reason.

Yes, I was not killed or seriously hurt, but if I was would these people have driven away, would they have been breathalysed if they stayed on the scene?

This lawlessness disgusts me.

Guilty people get away with this type of behaviour.

I have no faith in our service departments.
