Dog’s blog: Cheeky snacks
Why is it that it's always the smallest little snacks that are the cheekiest. They must truly have fluff for brains.
For instance… am trotting along nicely in the veld. Minding my own business, on my leash – when suddenly we’ll round the corner and there will be a couple of speckled snacks.
Also trotting neatly along on their leashes…
They’ll spot my furry bod and suddenly begin snapping, snarling and straining like crazy. They’re small, skinny little creatures – maybe weigh a couple of kilo’s compared to my relatively wholesome bod. Let’s furry face it – I’m a large Fudge on short legs. Often people tend to come to the highly erroneous conclusion that I’m a pudgy Fudgy.
I’m just a bit out of proportion. That’s all.
The snacks’ humans have to reign in those leashes and speak harshly to their uncouth little critters. Alpha gives me a little yank too – just to remind me I’m bigger than them – in more ways than size.
If I can sneak one in without Mom seeing – I give them the dirty-fang-look. As in… curl my lip a bit and raise my hackles – both the bum ones and the ones on the back of the neck.
Then I trot on disdainfully. The snacks are still snapping and straining after I’m long gone. Sometimes their owners can get pretty snippy too. Maybe they just feel a tad embarrassed at their canine’s dodgy behaviour.
Not very sociable – is it?
Take today, during our morning weemail in our very own complex – a little… erm… can only describe it as a squashed flea with a perm (can’t call it a snack – would not fill a fang) came bouncing up to me. Barking and growling.
Poingg… poinggg… poingggg… it stuffed its squished nose straight under my tail.
Hackles that I did not even know I possessed rose. My lip curled involuntarily – exposing my fearsome fangs in their entirety. Mom said in her low meanie voice… “Be. Nice. Fudge!”
She and I both know this tone is actually directed at the stupid humans who raise dogs to be so doff.
No! They are not being sociable. They are ill-mannered. It is polite dog behaviour to cautiously approach another dog and gently sniff in greeting.
Such bumptious upstarts are not being cute, nor are they being friendly. They are rude, obnoxious little weasels and need to go to dog school.
