Dog’s blog: Sore paw

Last weekend started out fine. We had a nice walk - in the suburban veld, not Stone Hill veld. The weather was seriously cold and chilly and we were the only walkers out and about.

Mom and Alpha spent much of the weekend tik tiking away on their laptop thingies. Am quite sure that it’s not right to ignore their precious doglet on the weekend, like they do in the week. There should be rules about such stuff.

So I had to occupy myself. Was doing exactly that – harassing the snack that was trotting around in the street below our house with his humans.

It’s a pathetic little creature and gets doubly nervous when I let rip with my deep growly bark. It tends to hive off down the road with its tail between its legs. Quite amusing really – considering that I can’t actually get to it. Obviously it’s a bit doff and has not figured this out yet.

Anyhow… somewhere in the process of terrifying snacks – I must have hurt my paw.

Ooowwwiiieeeee. Could not put any weight on it at all.

We all went upstairs. I tell you – it’s quite hard to climb stairs on three legs.

Finally, when I could not get on the bed, Mom noticed that her precious doglet was broken.

She sat on the floor and checked out my paw. Felt underneath and between my toes. Bit ticklish that was. Sometimes those big thorns get stuck in my pads – but that’s generally when we walk. She notices straight away and fixes it.

Problem with this… there was nothing to see. She felt my leg and wiggled it gently to test that it worked. It did. Just could not put any weight on my paw.

“That’ll teach you for being such a meanie to the neighbour’s dog,” Mom said. “You’ve hurt your paw by being a hooligan!”

Hmmm…. perhaps.

I needed to go downstairs. Eyed out those suckers. Going up on three legs was half doable, but not going down. I’d break my furry neck. Good job I’d walked so much last weekend – was rather more of a slim, svelte pooch instead of a pudgy Fudgie.

Alpha carried me down. But then I forgot and went back upstairs again to Mom. So she carried me down the next time and the next…

It took a few days but its better now.
