Just dripping though. Not seriously streaming like it did for the rest of the week.
Mom looked at my desperate face, clasped her jersey tighter and said to Alpha – ahhh come on – we won’t melt.
We jumped out of the car and off we went. But we did not get far. At the top of the bridge there was a human with two large Alsatian dogs.
Did I mention they were large?
Alpha checked out the situation. He decided we should walk the other way. We’ve seen her before and know that she and her pooches are not on the same wave length.
Her dogs eyed us from a distance. I felt a bit like dinner.
We hadn’t walked far when suddenly she started bellowing. One of her creatures had broken free. She couldn’t run after him because she was clutching onto the other fearsome fanged critter for dear life.
We stopped. Lucky I’d already had my morning poop – otherwise I may have violated the veld laws and fertilized the grass.
Mom clutched her jersey tighter.
Well…. she said – it is starting to rain harder. Maybe we should go home?
Suited me just fine. Wheeled around and hightailed it for the car – dragging her along behind me. Think Alpha thought we were being bang-broeke but clearly mom and I share the opinion that I’m far too precious to mess with.
Mind you – by then the wet stuff was starting to stream.
We climbed in the car and went home. Safe and sound!
Unlike what happened to my friend Benji the basset hound a while ago. He was having his daily constitutional with Sharon, his mom, when a rude bakkie came screeching round the corner making them both jump out of the way.
Now Benji is a very sociable doglet. He spotted some buddies on the other side of the fence and seeing as he was now close enough, stuck his head through the bars to say hello.
Not a very clever move. They tried to eat him. Literally.
Poor Sharon had to carry him home – all chewed and bleeding buckets. He ended up staying in hospital and getting hundreds of stitches in his head. He also lost a bit of one of his lovely dangly ears.
He’s nearly better now.
