Annoyed resident

A reader send in this letter

I am quite annoyed and frustrated and want to ask the Ekurhuleni Metro a question.

You moan and groan about the outstanding accounts, but when we get there to make arrangements to paid it off, it is refused and not accepted.

Reason, because if you cannot pay the outstanding R20 000 or more, then sorry.

Unfortunately there are thousands of people out there that just cannot afford to scratch out R20 000.

I was sitting with elderly people who wanted to make arrangements to pay off R10 000, their offer was rejected too.

Wonder where on earth must people dig out this kind of money?

Isn’t it better to rather accept some sort payment than nothing?

The credit controllers are trying to assist but when you get to Mr Buys or Mr van Heerden you get declined.

Thousands of people lost their jobs and cannot afford all their responsibilities and are asking for assistance but then it gets declined.

Surely you can be happy that honest people are coming forward to make arrangements?

How many people are in the rural areas and get away with outstanding amounts or it gets written off?

I would like to hear the metro’s response, because where on earth does anyone get R20 000, not to mention where must senior citizens get R10 000?

It must be mentioned. no-one gets into this situation just because they want to.

This country’s economy is in such bad shape that some people will rather buy food, but when they try to arrange some sort of agreement you get declined and sent away.

Just makes one think.

Disappointed ratepayer.
