Doggy prayers work

One Saturday morning we got into the car and headed out for our walk in the veld.

When we drove through the gate it started to rain.

Just a few drops – not even enough to blur the windscreen.

Mom looked at Alpha and said Oh oh! Better not get any worse than this.

She looked at me and said… Start saying your doggy prayers Fudges – if this rain gets any harder there is going to be no walking in the veld this morning.

By the time we got to the turn-off it was pouring down.

They decided to go and buy their yukky bread first. Alpha offered mom the chance to go into the shop for a change. Mom snorted and declined.

She said she’d already showered that morning.

Off he went, ducking and diving through the puddles.

We stared out of the window glumly.

The water was pelting down in all directions.

There were even a few grumbles from the thunderdog.

Alpha came back, clutching a brown bag.

He smelled a bit like wet chicken.

Mom gave my ear a scratch and said to Alpha – well – we might as well drive passed the veld and see how much it’s raining there.

Considering it’s less than a kilometre away that seems a tad silly, but I nodded my head and wagged my tail enthusiastically.

We drove off.

By the time we got to the spot where we usually park, the rain was just a few droplets.

We all jumped out of the car. We’ll just have a quickie Fudges – said mom.

Alpha grabbed my ball and off we went.

The rain got even less.

Then it dried up altogether – though it was still very dark and miserable looking and that thunderdog was still growling in the sky.

Looked at the car.

Mom sighed…

Don’t be a wuz Fudges – he can’t get you. Let’s go play some ball and walk.

And we walked our usual walk – none of this quickie nonsense.

As we came down the hill towards the car, a few large spots of water splattered to the ground.

Once we were safely in the car it rained with a vengeance.

Mom said… I see your doggie prayers worked really well Fudgie. I wagged my tail.
