He’s been working on the farm in the Eastern Cape for the last year and we have not seen him at home for ages.
He’s big now.
No longer is he the small little sometimes whiny character that sat plopped in his chair playing computer games and watching TV all day, every day, consuming vast amounts of junk food and leaving his stuff all over the place.
Hroof hmmmm… actually he still leaves his stuff all over the place.
But I think that it is very considerate of him because I can check it out and sniff it thoroughly.
I was miffed because he invited Ralphie to sleep on his bed.
Obviously that wretched cat snaffled the opportunity with alacrity and cuddled up nightly next to his feet for ten days.
Before, when I wasn’t sick, I would have leapt onto his bed and bumped that snoring creature off onto the floor.
Now I can’t leap onto anything – not the bed, the couch or the car.
Have to be helped up like a decrepit old lady.
Sadly my boy has lost his sharing habits on the farm. Probably because (a) the dogs are not allowed in the house and (b) there are too many of them.
I guess if he shared his snacks and dinner he would get nothing to eat himself.
So I would have to watch him snarf down sandwiches and stuff without sharing a crumb.
One morning Mom used some of my steak (the stuff she thinks she’s hiding my pills in) to make Alpha a sarmie for work.
But Alpha came home early that day and offered his sarmie to Luan instead.
I volunteered to eat half, seeing as it was my steak and all.
But that Luan demolished the whole shebang without sharing a single morsel.
Tried slobbering onto his foot but it was covered with a takkie.
He did not even notice.
Mom and I were outraged.
Mom always shares everything with me.
Even if it’s only a little bit – she knows – it’s the thought that counts.
I got him back though.
He left a snack on the arm of the chair and went off to the kitchen to get a drink.
When he returned the snack was missing.
He looked at me and said in capital letters… FUDGE?
I stared back.
What?
He did play ball with me though.
