Following the terror attacks on the homosexual community at a gay club in Orlando, USA, and the recent terror attack threats on our country I am concerned about the state of the current world we live in.
This would not be the first instance of terror attacks in the world, but the terror is not less significant in anyway.
There is even terror all around us here at home.
For instance, two weeks ago, the Advertiser reported on the murder of two women who were two more victims of the senseless and heartless world we live in.
One of the two women was shot right in front of her children, in broad daylight where everyone could see.
That is certainly no different to a terrorist attack as the results are still traumatic and life-changing.
My greatest concern with the world we find ourselves living in is that it leaves a bleak and scary future for our children.
I think, as a community, we need to be conscious about what we expose our children to; how we raise them; and what kind of conflict-management skills we teach them.
I believe that a big part of the problem with the world we live in today is the fact that violence has been taught as a method to deal with problems.
Not only that, but children are not taught compassion, tolerance and problem-solving skills, which is why we have dysfunctional adults whose lack of proper upbringing becomes a consequence for the whole world to deal with.
Of course, not all terrorists or criminals are a result of bad upbringing; for some, it is a conscious decision to be that way.
However, we need to come together as a community to create awareness about issues that lead to children becoming dysfunctional adults and we need to keep an eye on one another.
After all, “it takes a village”.
Lastly, we need prayer.
We need not only pray for Springs, but for the rest of the world.
